Ella Mae Osborne

Ella Mae Osborne, 101, passed away on March 16, 2022, at Azria Healthcare in Des Moines. She was born in Mitchellville, Iowa, the daughter of Merlin and Rhoda Craig on June 26, 1920.

Ella Mae graduated from Mitchellville High School in 1938. On May 1, 1942, she married the love of her life, James William Osborne, at the Congregational Church in Mitchellville. Together they raised two children, Garrett and Neil. Ella Mae spent her life as a homemaker caring for her family. She was a lifelong member of Congregational Church in Mitchellville and an 80 year member of Rebecca Lodge in Mitchellville. Ella Mae enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, watching and feeding the birds. She loved spending time with family, especially watching her great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

Ella Mae is survived by her son, Garrett (Karen) Osborne; grandchildren, Karneen (Chuck) Hoyle, Kari Osborne, and Neil Osborne, Jr.; great-grandchildren, William Hoyle, James Hoyle, and Robert Hoyle; sister-in-law, Ann Craig; other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Osborne; son, Neil Osborne; grandson, Garrett James Osborne, Jr. and brothers, William Craig, Howard Craig, and Lester Craig.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, March 21, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Ave. S., Mitchellville. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Mitchellville First Congregational United Church of Christ, 211 Park Ave. NE, Mitchellville. Burial to follow at Mitchellville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the church, in loving memory of Ella Mae.
