Charles William Beattie
March 14, 2022
Charles William Beattie, age 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Charlie was born to Dorr and Louise Beattie on January 22, 1950, in Des Moines. Dorr was a farmer and a founding member of the Southeast Polk School Board. Louise was a homemaker. Charlie graduated from Southeast Polk in 1968 and went on to work at Firestone for 38 years in Des Moines. During this time, he met his wife Cindee, and they were married for 45 years.
Charlie was fortunate to retire at a young age and travel. They spent winters in Texas and traveled during the summer. Charlie loved sports and would often be found at a grandchild’s baseball game. Charlie loved his grandkids and would make sure they all had whatever they needed. He loved to spend time in his shed and tinker, either woodworking or rebuilding a tractor.
Charlie was preceded in death by his dad and mom Dorr and Louise, his father-in-law Gale Swanson and brothers-in-law Gary Freeman and Bill Denny. Charlie is survived by his wife Cindee, daughter Emily (Josh) Cerveny and their kids Grayson and Keegan, son Matt (Tana) Beattie and their kids Charlie, Matalyn, Henry, and Maggie. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Iris Swanson and his older sister Helen Freeman.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2022 at Rising Sun Church of Christ, 6390 NE Rising Sun Drive, Pleasant Hill, IA 50327. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022, also at Rising Sun Church, and will be followed by burial at Warren-Powers Cemetery in Adelphi, IA.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Community Church of Christ, 4018 NE 45th Drive, Des Moines, IA 50317, or to the family in loving memory of Charlie.

Cindee, we know how long Charlie has suffered and is now pain free. We have so many great memories while at Park Place . Our trip to San Antonio and the memory book you gave us. I saw a picture the other day of three guys standing in the street in Progreso with their forks hanging around their necks. So many funny and crazy times. Remember them and us. Love to you and your family. Phyllis and Neil

Charlie (don't call him Chuck). To the only person that ever called me Willy and now I learn his middle name was William -
All of the memories together, baseball in high school. Memories of Steve Rodda, myself and of course, Charlie, drinking at Jim Irish's house. All of the dinners and parties we shared with each other and friends.
Great times and a great friend that I will not forget.
