Elizabeth Cavil

Elizabeth Cora Cavil, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 11, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Elizabeth was educated in the Des Moines Public School System. She married Leonard Cavil and they had nine children. Elizabeth truly loved life, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elizabeth would stay on the phone for hours talking to her friends.
One of Elizabeth’s favorite hobbies was cooking and watching everyone enjoy her food. Her all-time favorite though was shopping. She also loved playing dominos. Elizabeth was a longtime member of Church of God in Christ – she had a strong faith and believed in the Lord. Her most treasured scripture was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believed in him should not perish, but have forever lasting life.”

Elizabeth is survived by her children: Yvonne, Theresa, Christine, Kevin (Andriea), DeWayne and Ferion Cavil, and Linda Cavil-Key, all of Des Moines, Iowa and Jonine Jackson of Phoenix, Arizona; siblings, Jennie Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa; Paula Harris of Mason City, Iowa; Ricco Winfrey of Jacksonville, Florida and Joyce Winfrey of Hot Springs, Arkansas. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren, Troy Cavil, Monique Flipping, Jermaine, Latasha, Corey, Rodney Brown, Russell Watley Jr., Myisha Jackson, Mykeal Shade, Nicholas, Quinton Cavil, DeAndre Murray, Javelle Jackson, LaQuan Cowell; great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; daughter, Carlotta Cavil; parents, Rosella Crane and Albert Winfrey; brothers, Albert Winfrey II “Big Junior”, Alvin, Ronald, Maylon “Tony” and Robert “Robbie” Winfrey.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Greater Love Church, 1440 De Wolf in Des Moines with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
