Ronald Rooney

Ronald Rooney, 79, passed away on March 6, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 5, 1943, the son of Albert and Gladys Rooney.

Ron was reserved, but loved to tease. He had a wonderful sense of humor and didn’t require much to fulfill his happiness. He enjoyed puzzles, tending to his lawn, gardening, time spent with family, traveling, capturing special moments by photograph and thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Many of his former days were spent fishing and antiquing.

Ron married his soulmate Judith Ann on January 8, 1977 and they shared 44 wonderful years together.

He was the family foundation, always someone that you could depend on.

Ron is survived by his children, Doug Rooney and wife Cindy of Florida, Jim Rooney of Florida, Lisa Rooney of Iowa, Steve Rooney and wife Shari of Iowa, Scott Rooney and wife Desi, Ryan Rooney and wife Ellen of Iowa, and Tim Duquette and wife Doris of Massachusetts; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grand-children; siblings, Alan (Gayla) Rooney and Robert (Sande) Rooney.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife, son, Jeffery, parents, sisters, Gladys and Phyllis, one brother, Albert, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.

Private services will be held at Lincoln Cemetery in Granger.
