Glenda Guiberson-Dittmar
March 06, 2022
Glenda Dee Guiberson-Dittmar of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away on March 6, 2022 at her home after complications from cancer.
Glenda was born October 1, 1951 to Roy and Darlene Guiberson. She grew up in Norwalk, IA and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1969. She married Robert Dittmar on August 26, 1986 in Lake Tahoe. She was affectionately known to many as “Aunt Glennie.” Above all, she loved spending time with her family and was so proud of her amazing grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Grandma Glennie.
In high school, Glennie participated in many activities including softball and golf. She made many friends throughout her high school years and continued to stay in touch with them. After graduating high school, Glennie worked at Hertz Car Rental at the Des Moines International Airport. From there, she worked at Avis Car Rental and ended her 30-year career at National Rental Car. She developed life-long friendships with her co-workers and took great pride in her work.
Glennie was generous, loving, neighborly, and eccentric. She frequently looked for others to befriend and could easily find something in common with those she met. She drove a customized Iowa Hawkeye Volkswagen Bug and she enjoyed cheering on the Hawkeyes. She was never seen without a full glass of iced tea and sandals were worn year around. Some of Bob and Glennie’s fondest memories were the years they spent traveling the world.
Glennie will be missed by her loving husband of 35 years, Bob; sons, Rob (Lina) Dittmar of Philadelphia, PA, and Brad (Amy) Dittmar of Ankeny, IA; granddaughters, Zoe and Olivia Dittmar and Lulu (Scott) Calhoun; grandson, Drake Dittmar; sister, Linda Caruthers of Waukee, IA; niece, Dawn (Craig) Allison of Waukee, IA; nephew, Keri (Jan) Caruthers of West Des Moines, IA; many great-nieces and nephews; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Darlene Guiberson; and best childhood girlfriends, Kristine Kessler and Ramona Dilks.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation two hours prior. Burial will take place at the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery in Urbandale, IA.
Memorials may be directed to EveryStep Hospice in Des Moines.
Welcome to heaven Aunt Glennie, where the flow of iced tea is endless and shoes are not required.

Glennie,
You was one-of-a-kind and we will never forget you and all the great memories. I can only imagine the reunion that took place the day God called you Home! I will look after your "boyfriend" Bryan. Praying for the emptiness Bobby is feeling without you by his side. He loves you so very much. I will keep an eye on him too. He has such a great family and friends support, hope he leans on all of us. Love what your niece said, hope the iced tea is flowing and you are loving not wearing shoes! My heart hurts for us but so glad you are no longer in pain! We Love You Glennie and will miss you so much! Prayers and Love to all her family! I know everyone else is wearing white, but you are wearing pink! 🌷Which is just like you!!!! Bryan and Kay

I am saddened to hear of Glendas passing. She was a valued student in my Physical Education class in Norwalk, High School! As a new teacher in the district I was asked to start a Girls P.E. Program where there had been no such program or class for girls prior to that. I was warned that the girls would not be taking kindly to this new requirement. Not only did I forge ahead to create the program but I was even so bold as to require gym uniforms! To say all this was unpopular is a gross understatement. I was told to expect reluctance on the part of the girls. This, too, was a gross understatement! On the first day of classes I explained we would start each class with 5 minutes of running. This idea did not seem to go over well but I was determined to be successful in establishing good fitness practices for life. So I said hopefully that we would have music playing while we ran. Everyone up and run, I shouted! No one moved. OK, Lets go! I shouted ! No one moved.
I thought This isnt reluctance, this is mutiny! Frantically I thought through my options. Then out of the blue, up jumped Glenda, shouting, You heard, Mrs. Mineart, get up and run! They did!! Her leadership saved a teachers life that day (along with Carla Onstot in the next class who followed suit and did the same!).. I have been forever grateful for their acceptance of me as a teacher and for their kindness and friendship. No, Glennie will not be forgotten!!
