George W. Bragg, the son of Alice Johnson and George David Bragg was born on June 30, 1941 in New London, Missouri. George enjoyed life to the very fullest until his death on March 1, 2022.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1552 Maple St., Des Moines. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Des Moines.

George attended and was educated in the Des Moines Public Schools system. Crocker Grade School, Washington Irving Junior High School, and North High School.

George’s employment years included Wilson Packing Plant (12 yrs.) until it closed. Central Tractor (17 yrs.), and Lutheran Hospital until his retirement after 13 years of service.

George was a member of the Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church. He became a member under the Pastorage of Reverend George H. Parrish. George enjoyed good gospel music and traveled most of the states including Canada, Mexico, and Bahamas. Those who knew George knew he was a casual quiet person who loved his sport themed baseball hats and T-shirts. He was an avid Hawkeye fan.

George married the love of his life, Beverly Elaine Butts on July 1, 1967 and together raised two sons, George (Wally) Bragg, Jr. and Gordon Wade Bragg. George was always the gentle, patient father who always spent a lot of time with his son. A very quiet kind man.

George enjoyed sports and traveled with the Des Moines Jets, A Black Urban League Baseball team. His true love was his children’s achievements in Little League Sports. George not only took his sons to their practices, games and tournaments, but gave rides to children who needed transportation, always volunteering his time and love to them all. Watching and being involved in all phases of their life.

George loved being with family and friends. He cherished traveling to family reunions and the trips to Denver to visit his son’s and their family.

Called home before him were: His mother, father, son George Bragg, Jr., sisters Anna Mae Calister, Edna Cooley, and Genevive Tolson, brother Bart Johnson, and sister, Norma Bragg.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Beverly, son Gordon (LeeAnda) Bragg, grandchildren Da’nae Simone Avery, and Gordon Wade Bragg, Jr., great-grandchild Eddie, brothers Harry (I’eta) Daye and Charles Daye, and a host of extended families and friends.

George was a generous wonderful Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.

He will truly be missed.
