Michael "Mike" Anthony Miller
February 25, 2022
Michael “Mike” Anthony Miller, 58, was born September 2, 1963, in Des Moines, Iowa to Francis and Eileen Miller. He passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, surrounded by family in his home.
Mike was a proud husband, son, brother, father, and the best papa. He was determined to be present and live life to its fullest while always enjoying the simple things. He had an infectious laugh and a contagious smile that lit up any room. Mike was a talented baseball player who instilled a love for the game through his children and coaching. He enjoyed time at the lake, practicing craftsmanship, a good beer, and helping others. Mike shared his faith by partaking in adoration for 15 years and was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Mike fought cancer for nearly a decade but never let it slow him down.
His light is still so bright, and will continue to shine through his loving wife, Janelle; children, Erika (James) O’Connor, Amanda Miller, Michael (Kelcee) Miller, Alexis (Zach) Cooper, and Andrea Miller; step-children, Nick Ochoa and Morgan Ochoa; siblings, Francis “Bud” (Rachel) Miller, Chris (Kim) Miller, Pat (Kristi) Miller, Monica (Mike) Roland, Sheila (Steve) McGoldrick, Sarah (Marty) Dudley, and David (Andrea) Miller; grandchildren, Mick Miller, Jett Miller, Callan Cooper, and Ayla Cooper; and a host of loving relatives and many special friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022, with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2022, also at the church. Mike will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the Mass.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Mike.

I am an old friend of Frances and Eileen. I used to hang out in their home the 1969, 1970, and 1971 summers between my college days at Iowa State. Went water skiing at Red Rock with Frances, Danny, Mick, on uncle Paul's boat. Cross country driving with Danny using Frances' car. Played pool in Frances' basement with Frances, Mick, and Ronnie Hill. I am very fond of those days so long ago. Michael was just a youngster then, so I never got to know him very well. But I know Frances and Eileen, and I wanted to say how very sorry I am for the loss of your son. God be with you and with all of Michael's family.

Was not aware of Mikes death. Was at George Kinley funeral today and as I was leaving saw the folder for his funeral services. A shock. His smile in the photo was perfect. Another one of the great Millers to grace our city and our church. I will offer a Mass for him and keep his family in my prayers. May his spirit inspire us and live on in us. God be with you all through this time of loss and beyond.

Deepest sympathy to the Miller family from the Christ the King Richard and Clara Johnson family, and so sorry to hear of Mike's passing today. I recall Mike from Dowling High School and prior to then noting his baseball pitching skills--going back to Ft Des Moines Little League in the mid '70s, where he was frightening on the mound to us 10,11, 12 year olds. Why this sticks in my mind 45 years later: I had my farthest Little League hit ever against Mike--where I simply stuck the bat out and HIS velocity did the rest. He was a presence even then, and was always impressed with his being drafted by the Phillies. The Millers were ever present at Christ The King and an ideal Catholic family. God Bless.

I am so very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I have known Mike since we went to school at St. Anthony's. He was such a kind person, always impressed me with his big smile and love for God by serving on the altar. You could tell he enjoyed ever minute. What a great role model. Rest in peace Mike, you have been a faithful servant.
