Richard John Schmeling
of Des Moines, Iowa

Richard “Dick” Schmeling, age 79, passed away at his home on February 27, 2022. He was born the son of Arthur and Helen (Zanders) Schmeling on March 6, 1942 in Casey, Iowa.

Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Mid-Continent Bottlers, Inc. after many years of faithful service. He was a devout member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was extremely involved in the Knights of Columbus.

Some of his hobbies and interests included being a huge Corvette fan, he collected model cars, and especially enjoyed cruising around town in his own Corvette. He and JoAnna enjoyed spending time at their lake house in Lake Ponderosa. Above everything, Dick loved being surrounded by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife JoAnna Schmeling, brothers Donald, Larry, and Paul (Deb) Schmeling, brothers-in-law, Paul (Barb), Nick, and Mick (Charlotte) Iaria, numerous nieces and nephews, and other loving relatives and many special friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Schmeling, and his parents-in-law Paul and Rose Iaria.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road, Des Moines.
