Byron Jon Long, 62, passed away February 27, 2022, at Azria Health Park Place in Des Moines, IA.
Byron was born January 13, 1960, in Cherokee, IA to William Long and Carol (McQueen) Long. As a youth, he enjoyed spending time and working at his grandparents’ farm. He worked at Union 76 Truckstop, PDI Warehouse, and UPS until he could no longer work due to diminished eyesight caused by M.S.
Byron took great pride in caring for his lawn. He enjoyed mowing, listening to music, especially Rock N Roll, watching old TV shows, and playing video games.
Byron is survived by his daughter, Brandi (Jeremy) Lloyd; grandchildren, Grayson, Tiegan, and Zaden; mother, Carol; sister, Deedy (David) Reed, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Misty Long.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona, IA. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Howard Street Christian Church, 101 N. Locust St. in Colfax, IA with burial to follow at McKeever Cemetery.

I worked with Byron at 76. He was such a nice man that never treated anyone badly. He always had a smile and and his peaceful nature would let you know he knew no stranger. Prayers for peace to his daughter Brandi and his grandchildren.

Although we did not get to know Byron really well, remembering his yes fist pumps will always make us smile. We are truly sorry for your loss.
