Glen Raymond Baker of Des Moines Iowa passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, February 26th 2022 at approximately 8:45 AM at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Mr. Baker was born in Des Moines in 1933 and was the youngest of 13 children. He was raised in east Des Moines. After he graduated high school, he felt the call to serve his country and enlisted the United States Army. He was placed in Co:E 39th Infantry and was a light weapons Infantry Specialist.

He received many accommodations along with 2 metals One for Army of Occupation and one National Defense Soldier.

He was stationed in Germany from March 19 1952 until March 11th 1955. His role was one of a peace keeping after the German war and he was also involved in many building projects through Germany in America’s effort to help Germany and many other parts of Europe rebuild. It is here where he learned the plumbing trade.

Once he returned state side, he returned to his home of Des Moines where he began his trade as a plumber, which lasted over 45 yrs.

He married that same year in 1955 and began a family. They settled in Southern Des Moines and they raised three children together.

He was a simple man of many pleasures. Watching his children grow, supporting his family and being active in his community and neighbor hood. He was an avid outdoors man who loved to fish. Big bass fishing in many of the lakes Iowa were a popular destination for Mr. Baker.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nedra Jean Baker, and his three children, Raymond Eugene Baker of Des Moines Iowa, William Lee Baker of Houston Texas and Rhonda Elaine White of Omaha Nebraska.

There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 at Avon Cemetery in Avon Lake, Iowa.
