Fred L. Oliphant, Jr.

Fred L. Oliphant, Jr., 91, passed away on February 24, 2022, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Fred was born on May 16, 1930, in Des Moines to Fred L. and Kathryn (McConkey) Oliphant, Sr. He graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Drake University. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Fred was a Mason and a member of Wakonda Christian Church. He loved sailing and was a member of the Central Iowa Sailing and Yacht Club which gave him the opportunity to race his boat with his son. He also enjoyed skiing, ice skating, traveling, reading, and family activities.
Fred worked in the insurance industry for 40 years, the last 15 of which were at Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company.
Fred is survived by his wife, Brents Oliphant; children, Debbie (Tom) Overholser and Fred (Han) Oliphant III; step-children, Tom (Elizabeth) Grubbs, Lisa (Matthew) Norris, Christy Wilson; grandchildren, (and great grandchildren ), Todd (Melissa) Overholser (Hannah and Blake); Sean (Heather) Overholser (Logan and Jackson); Jennifer (Eric) Lehman (Nicholas and Will Williams) (Payton and Gavin Lehman); Fred (Megan) Oliphant, IV, (Claire, Mila, Auggie); Stephanie Oliphant (Zack) (Sophia, Dominick, Charlotte); Thomas Nguyen, Federico Oliphant, Kevin (Ari) Bilodeau, Donna Bilodeau, Janie Norris, John (Amber) Norris, Zach Allen, Caleb Allen, and Riley Wilson;
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Carolyn Ritchie and Kathryn Watts.
The family will greet friends Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wakonda Christian Church, 3938 Fleur Drive. Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4th at the church. Fred will be laid to rest with military honors Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Wakonda Christian Church in loving memory of Fred.

Dear Pete,
I have the fondest of memories of you and your dad, Fred Jr., racing catamarans on Grays Lake decades ago. Your dad had such a great sense of humor and was so fun to be around. Im sure he will be missed by all who knew him. Bless you and find comfort hes in a place of heavenly peace.
