Service Details

Randall L. Schneider, 75, passed away at home on February 23, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 1, 1947, to Lloyd and Irma Lavaughn Schneider in Norfolk, NE. He had 2 brothers; Don his older brother and Jim his younger brother.

Randy grew up in Pilger, NE which is where he started his family. He served in the Vietnam War as a Navy Seabee. Upon returning, he met the love of his life, Chris Hargens, and never left her side from that moment on. They were united in marriage on October 16, 1971, in Norfolk, NE and together they had 3 sons. Randy moved his family to Iowa in the mid-70s.

Randy enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He and Chris played volleyball for many years in and around Des Moines. He loved traveling and it wasn’t uncommon when he made a call on Thursday with the news that he and Chris were traveling the next day. He held family high and would do anything for them. Randy had more children than could be counted throughout the years. He never turned down any of his kids’ friends. At any given time, he housed 2-4 extra friends who went to school with his boys. It was common for a friend to walk in unannounced and perform your standard (refrigerator raid) say hi to Randy and Chris then leave, even if the boys weren’t home. There was never a No when it came to that which worked out well because anyone who knew Randy knew he shopped for food on about a daily basis. The cupboards, fridge, freezers, and every pantry was always stocked with enough food to survive the Depression. Half of the food was stored in any and every butter tub or reusable container he could find. Randy loved playing cards and games of all kinds. He had a game collection bigger than you could count; about every one that exists.

The life lessons he passed to his kids are shown every day in all of us. Be it bartering, making deals, saving money, building, fixing, fishing, sports, to how to be a gentleman around adults and how to treat people of authority. He made sure when one of his son’s met a new person, they shook their hand tight and told that person who you are. He instilled a witty sense of humor in his children so they could interact with anyone from any walk of life so you could relate to them which made making friends easy.

Anyone who spent more than one day with Randy knows that there is always a tub of popcorn close by. The tub never ran out. He was a hunter and fisherman which he passed these traits on to his boys. He kept his yard clean and groomed, and the last 10-15 years, he would be seen on his back deck enjoying the days with the neighbors and friends. When the Lord took Randy, he got a man of honor, a war hero, the greatest father, a loyal husband, and a friend to more people than can possibly be counted.

Randy is survived by his loving wife, Chris; sons: Byron (Amy), Daniel (Shelley), and Jason (Jennifer); grandchildren: Amanda, Triston, Samuel, Sierra, Nash, Vance, and Jacquelynn; great-grandson, Milo; brothers, Don and Jim; as well as other loving family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Irma Schneider, and his parents-in-law, Harold and Laura Hargens, all whom he has been reunited with in heaven.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.
