February 23, 2022
Virginia Ann Hill passed away on February 23, 2022, at Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa. Ginny was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, Iowa, where she was born on March 19, 1931, to Oscar and Nellie Swanson.
Ginny graduated from North High School in 1949. She married Le Hill on June 9, 1950. Le and Ginny had two sons, Mark and Craig, and were married for 42 years before Le passed away in 1992. Le and Ginny had many happy times together during family summer vacations to Woman Lake in Minnesota, and going to Iowa Hawkeye football games, both home and away. Ginny loved to bake; her pies, cinnamon rolls, and Christmas treat trays were fantastic.
Ginny worked at The Bankers Life and the Principal Financial Group for 27 years, starting as a part-time office assistant and retiring as a human resources director. She hired two thousand employees during that time. During retirement, she volunteered at the surgical waiting room at Mercy Hospital. After Le passed, she became a close friend of Bob Barnett, who had been one of Le’s golfing partners. Ginny and Bob traveled extensively together, including a trip to Iwo Jima for a U.S. Marine Corps reunion.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Dick Swanson and Norm Swanson. She is survived by sons Mark (Kristi) of Clive, Iowa, Craig (Sue) of Leawood, Kansas, four grandchildren (Ryan Hill of Altoona, Iowa, Michael (Jen) Hill of Leawood, Kansas, John (Laura) Hill of Leawood, Kansas, and Mackenzie (Joe) Schuler of Chicago), six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be Friday, March 11, 10:00-12:00 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. No funeral services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I am one of those that Ginny hired on at The Bankers Life/Prinicipal Financial Group. I worked there for 23 years, but did not survive the third cutback. She was related to Vern Hill who was my Journalism and English teacher at Hudson High School. Know that your family will be in my prayers during the upcoming days.

Ginny was the most sweetest, kind lady and a wonderful grandma to my son Ryan. She taught me so much about cooking, decorating, and Hawkeye Football tailgating. Spending time with her was a pleasure, I will miss our special times together. RIP Ginny, love you so much.
