James D. Nash, of Ankeny passed away Oct. 24th 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He is survived by Janet and (Max) Marshall of Ankeny; Beverly Lancaster of Ankeny; six grandchildren: Dennis (Terry) Marshall of Minneapolis, Michelle (Mike) Neubauer of Brimfield, Ill., Alan Lancaster of Iowa City, Robert Lancaster of Cedar Rapids, Lisa (Paul) Thacker of Nashville, Tenn., and Chris Nash of Anchorage, Alaska; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death were his parents; his wife, Evelyn; a sister and a brother; his sons, Larry and Terry; also son-in-law, Carl Lancaster, husband of Beverly.

James was born July 19, 1917, near Walnut City, Appanoose County. He graduated from Moravia High School and in 1938 he married his high school sweetheart Evelyn Stauber and celebrated 60 years of marriage. In James's early life he farmed in southern Iowa. After WW II he taught farming skills to several veterans in southen Iowa. In 1956 he moved his family to Des Moines and worked at different jobs and became an electrician. He developed Holiday Terrace Mobile Home park at DeSoto. He also owned and managed apartment buildings in Des Moines. Still later he returned to Rathbun Lake area where he purchased land and developed "Nash Hill," a family retreat enjoyed by his family and many friends.

James and Evelyn enjoyed many trips together. Family and friends and nature were his joy. His hobbies included collecting coins, stamps, rocks and antique dishes. He also collected and restored antique tractors. He supported Boy Scouts and loved camping and time with family.

In 1999 he moved to Ankeny to live with his daughter Beverly Lancaster. He was a member of Ankeny Christian Church.

Visitation will be held 4:30-7:30 pm Monday, October 26, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens on 2nd Avenue. Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery at Moravia, Iowa.
