Scott J. Hamilton, 54, of Des Moines passed on October 23, 2009. Scott was born on January 6, 1955 in Ames, Iowa to Robert and Leah (Himschoot) Hamilton. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa and was a member of the Iowa Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Susan Hamilton. Survivors include his mother, Leah Hamilton; his children, Michael (Emily) Hamilton, Sarah (Aaron) Witt, Kathryn Hamilton; granddaughter, Hannah Witt; sister, Heidi Hamilton; brother, Patrick Hamilton; and his stepmother, Dana Hamilton.
Scott requested cremation without services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established and contributions may be forwarded to Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA 50266.

In 1980 or so I met Scott through mutual friends. I visited his home in Windsor Heights and Scott would visit me at my home. When I got married in 1983 my wife Ellen and I moved to Colorado. Scott had work in Colorado sometimes and came to visit us in Boulder several times. We looked forward to the times Scott was able to stop by. Through the years we lost track of each other as happens. We are saddened by his passing. We fondly remember the times he was a guest in our home. We remember Scott's sense of humor, laughing with him and sharing good conversation. It sounds silly and cliche but I think about Scott every day. A joke is made, a phrase is used, a city/state or event is mentioned, ect, but there is something each and every day that reminds me of Scott. He was a smart man and I learned a lot from him, like some of the words to Broadway musicals of the 50's and 60's - grin. What a kick it was to see him singing 'I enjoy being a girl' with one of his buddies in TR's. There are so many fun and funny memories. He had a smile and charm that won't be matched or forgotten. He left my world a while ago but he never left my heart. My sincere sympathy and prayers you find peace with his passing.

Dear Michael, Sarah, Katie, Emily, Aaron, Hannah,
On behalf of the entire Moeller family I extend our sincere sympathy to all of you upon the loss of your father, father-in-law and grandfather.
We have very fond memories of those years so long ago on 57th Pl. Remember? Way back when Michael rode his bike to Dubuque AND jumped over a semi.......and Sarah randomly walked into our kitchen unannounced.....and outdid Michael by riding a bike before he did and told all of us to "yook at my yegs".....and the evening after Katie's birth when your dad had put a note on our front door announcing Katie's arrival........we arrived home from wherever we had been (it was about 10:00 p.m.) and saw the light from the tv on in the front room of your house.......being the boisterous people that we are we pounded on the front door so we could be the first to congratulate your dad.......and woke him from a sound sleep on the couch. He wasn't real happy with us. I also fondly remember the time your dad re-roofed the house and I promised your mom that I would keep on eye on him (she was worried about him up on the roof alone) as long as he promised to do his handywork wearing shorts so I could have a good view. And the time I broke the new wooden steps that your dad had installed at your side door. Yes, we have many memories - Scott was always so friendly to us and we all know how much he loved our dog Ralph (not!).
Our love and prayers go out to all of you during this sad time. We trust that God will be beside you and wrap his loving arms around you during your grief. I hope that your happy memories will sustain you in the months and years ahead.

Am so sorry to hear about your dad's passing. He was a great friend and enjoyed talking to him. Just want you all to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I will never forget his smile and his laugh.

I met Scott in 2003 and enjoyed his company for several months, dancing, dining and just hanging out. He was a loving person and loved his 3 children very much. He talked of Homeboy, Sarah & Katie with more love & affection than any dad I had ever spoke with. He could laugh while crying and celebrate while mourning life. I found him to be a fascinating man and enjoyed the foods, music & dance he introduced me to during those short months. I am sad to hear he passed away and hope he found peace in death. May you be comforted by friends and family in this difficult time.
