Glen Earl Bassett, 95, passed away on February 17, 2022 at Woodlands Creek Senior Living in Clive, Iowa.

Glen was born May 7, 1926 in Casey, Iowa to John Earl and Augusta (Luhrs) Bassett. He graduated from Casey High School in 1943 and worked in the local bank until he was old enough to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific during WWII on the aircraft carrier USS Monterey. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he enrolled at the University of Iowa.

In 1947, he married Roma Lorine Mains, his high school sweetheart. They lived in Iowa City until his graduation in 1949 with a business degree in Commerce. Glen became a Certified Public Accountant and worked at public accounting firms in Des Moines, Iowa and Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1983, Glen and Roma moved to Texas, where he retired as Senior Vice President of the Federal Home Loan Bank in Dallas in 1991.
Glen was a man of strong faith who loved his wife and family deeply. His soft-spoken wisdom and kindness provided sought-after guidance to many and he set an example of integrity in both his home and professional lives.

He is survived by Roma, his loving wife of 74 years; son, Michael (Kathy) Bassett of Grimes, Iowa; daughter, Joan (Ray) McCallum of Olathe, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, Kelli (Tim) Lyon, Matthew (Katylin) McCallum, Jonathan (Jackie) Bassett, Mark McCallum and William (Emilie) Bassett; 6 great-grandchildren, Noelle, Isaac, Wesley and Grace Lyon, Olivia Bassett and Owen Bassett, and a McCallum baby boy on the way; sister, Myrna Whetstone; and sister-in-law, Darlene Bassett.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merle and Dean Bassett; brothers-in-law, Max Whetstone, Donald Kading, Richard Mains and William Tracy; and sisters-in-law, Esther Bassett, Virginia Kading, Betty Tracy, Janet Mains and Vina Mains.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Woods Drive, Urbandale, Iowa. Following the service and reception at Westkirk, burial with military honors will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Casey, Iowa.
