Maryetta Lucas

Maryetta Lucas, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Taylor House Hospice. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with interment to follow at Powers-Warren Cemetery near Runnells, Iowa.

Maryetta Spragg Lucas was born on June 10, 1921 to John and Ellen Spragg in Tripoli, Iowa. She graduated in 1938 from Cambridge High School, Cambridge, Iowa where Jack, her father, was the local barber.

Married in 1939 to Walter Ray Lucas with whom she owned and operated Lucas Pickup and Delivery Service for 31 years. Two children were born to this union, Jackie Lu and Douglas Ray. Maryetta worked in the accounting department of Look Magazine from 1960 until 1972.

She worked for Accoustical Specialties for 5 years and retired in 1983. Maryetta was a member of the First Church of Christ in Ankeny.

Maryetta is survived by her son, Douglas Lucas (Patsy); two granddaughters and one grandson; and eight great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ellen Spragg; sisters, Lucile Goodenbour and Thelma Buhr; husband, Ray; daughter, Jackie Stookey; son-in-law, Marvin Stookey; and grandsons, Steve Stookey and Lucas Ramquist.

Maryetta and the family ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to First Church of Christ, 310 NW Ash Drive, Ankeny, IA 50023.
