Karen Shafer, 83, passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2022. She was born in Villisca, Iowa on July 30, 1938, the daughter of Cecil and Eunice Hoyt.

Karen treasured time spent with family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, she was always their biggest fan. Karen enjoyed crossword puzzles, feeding the birds, and taking care of Siloh and Tucker, her favorite four legged furry friends. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially football and basketball.

Karen is survived by her sons, Jan (Teresa Nicholson) and Terry (Tami) Shafer; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ben) McKinney, Sean (Shelby) Shafer, Spencer (Travis) Newman and Dallas (Shyann Bailey) Nicholson; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Beatrix, Benson, Lincoln, Emerson, Alba and Elliot; siblings, Maurice “Moe” (Susie) Hoyt and Connie (Ron) Copley; other loving relatives and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley Shafer; parents, Cecil and Eunice (Cohoon) Hoyt; and her brother, Laurence Hoyt.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
