Georgia Ullestad

Rev. Georgia (Georgene) Elaine Ullestad was received into heaven on Saturday, February 5, 2022. Georgene was born on August 18, 1922 in Bucklin, Missouri to Otto and Naomi Atteberry Sims.

After graduating from Brookfield, Missouri High School Georgene enrolled in North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated in 1945. It was during her college years she met Allan and after one year of employment at Minneapolis Honeywell she and Allan Ullestad were married on May 18, 1946 and shared together 68 years of marriage.

To this union Allan and Georgene were blessed with three children, Merwin Allan, Sharolynn Elaine and Kevin Eugene.

The young couple began their married life in Hampton Iowa where Allan, a minister, had been for a year pioneering a church in the city. A group of people became converts and joined in forming the First Assembly of God Church with a newly constructed edifice to worship in.
Georgene and Allan pastored churches in Iowa that included Hampton, Mason City, Keokuk, Council Bluffs and Des Moines. When the family moved to Des Moines, Allan was elected to serve as Superintendent of the Assemblies of God of Iowa and Georgene was elected as President of the Women’s Ministries working with foreign missionaries and women groups throughout Iowa, a position which she held for 14 years before retirement.

Georgene enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and also entertaining various groups at their home in Fox Creek Acres in Waukee, where they resided for 30 years.

Georgene and Allan hosted three tours to the Holy Land, Europe and Egypt as well as conducting a Missions conference in Haiti.

Georgene’s love for music enabled her to work with choirs, orchestras and as accompanist in the churches they pastored. Most recently she was a member of New Hope Assembly of God choir singing every Sunday.

Georgene is survived by her children, Merwin (Crystal) Ullestad, Sharolynn Ullestad and Kevin (Lynn) Ullestad; grandchildren, Amyee (Matt) Delaney and Brittany Newman; great-grandchildren, Ella and Theodore Delaney; nephew, Mark Sims; and other extended family members.

Georgene was preceded in death by her husband, Allan; a granddaughter, Sharemi Elaine Ullestad (Sharolynn’s daughter); grandsons, Benjamin and Brandon Ullestad (Kevin’s sons); her parents; and a brother, Earl Eugene Sims.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Hamilton’s on Westown, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 15th at 10:30 AM at New Hope Assembly of God Church, 4425 70th Street, Urbandale, Iowa with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
