David Paul Hiatt

David Paul Hiatt, 81, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

David was born October 12, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa to Clinton and Mary (LePorte) Hiatt. He attended East High School in Des Moines. David enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958 and served until his honorable discharge. In March 1959 David married Shirley Reeder. They had one daughter, Kathy.

David began his career at Commercial Printing, which was owned by the Des Moines Register. He later worked for Windsor Wood Working as a millworker, until they closed in the 1980s. David enjoyed leather tooling, making horse equipment and bridles.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (John) Maddox; grandson, Christopher Maddox; friend and caregiver, Cathy Cody; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Mary Hiatt; brothers, Joseph and Donald Hiatt; step-brother, Robert; and step-sisters, Helen Freel, Dorothy Shadd, and Arlene Robinson.

There will be a graveside service at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa at a later date.
