Todd Jerry Canfield
January 29, 2022
Todd Jerry Canfield, 55, passed away January 29, 2022. Services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5-7PM Friday, February 4. Funeral service will be 12PM Saturday, February 5. Burial will follow at Hartford Cemetery.
Todd was born March 19, 1966 in Leon, Iowa. He grew up in Ankeny and graduated from Dallas Center Grimes in 1984. He enlisted in the Army in 1985 going from boot camp in Fort Benning, GA to Fort Ord, CA. Todd was proud to serve in the Army. He served in the Panama Mission. Following his military service, Todd was part of the Patriot Guard that helps pay respects to fallen soldiers.
Todd and June met at church in 1977. Their paths crossed again in 1990. Todd married his soul mate and true love on May 11, 1991. Todd enjoyed going to his grandma’s cabin in Northern Minnesota on Burnt Shanty Lake. Todd and June started going to a resort near there called Spider Lake Resort. They developed many friends and the people that owned the resort became like family. The friends they made there became their extended family too. It was their refuge and escape from reality. Todd and June held many gatherings, one being their 30th wedding anniversary vow renewal (resentencing/parole hearing) ceremony on May 15, 2021.
Todd enjoyed everything from fishing, hunting, shooting pool, bowling, riding his Harley, and racing. He got his baby, a 1970 SS Chevelle, and couldn’t wait to start rebuilding the motor the way he wanted. If you needed help with something, Todd could do it. Todd had a special quality that made it so that a stranger could easily talk to him and form a friendship.
Todd and June developed a friendship with Johnnie and Ronda Carpenter, who became family. He helped teach their boys how to drive and took their grandsons on vacations. Everyone that met Todd has something of a special story. He loved his fur babies, Sheba, Sir Bud, Taz, and ZsaZsa. His Zoey Girl now sure misses her daddy.
Todd was a professional truck driver for 35 years, nearly 30 years with PDI. He was looking forward to retirement and traveling with June and Zoey.
Todd was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Canfield; Grandpa and Grandma Canfield; Grandma Iva and Bob; Grandpa Curran; and his sister-in-law, Sherri Jacobs.
He is survived by his wife, June; fur baby, Zoey; mother, Christine Herridge; brother, Scott (Sarah) Canfield; sister, Missy (Bob) Huffman; uncles, Kelly (Debby) Canfield, Terry (Patty) Canfield; honorary brother and sister, Johnnie and Ronda Carpenter; cousins, Sissy, Rita (Robert), Bubba, and Em; and many more extended relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Furry Friends Refuge, Wounded Warriors Project, or directly to June.

Oh June, last night Dr. Snavely informed us of Todds death. We have been out of town since mid December so did not know.
Our hearts go out to you knowing your huge heart is broken. And June, there is a reason you and Todd made deep friendships so easily and often so all those folks can help support you and get you through this unimaginably sad time.
May God help you as well as all your friends and family. We are praying for you. Kathi and David
