Service Details

Edward David Pentico, 74, passed away in his sleep on January 28, 2022.
He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 13, 1947,
to Ernest and Olive Pentico.

Ed graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1965.
He enlisted in the United States Navy during his junior year of high school as
part of the U.S. Navy “Kiddie Cruise”, a ramp-up to the Vietnam Conflict.
Ed served until his honorable discharge in 1968, when his aspirations of
a lifetime Navy Career were ended by a motorcycle accident, which caused severe injuries to his left foot. Following his discharge, Ed received his AA degree in
computer programming from DMACC. He went on to be the data base
administrator at Hawkeye Security Insurance, where he retired in 2004.
During retirement, Ed pursued his interest in classic cars, particularly
Buick Rivieras. He made many friends from around the world at the
Annual International Riviera Meets, hosted by the
Riviera Owners Association.

Ed enjoyed pheasant hunting, woodworking, camping, fishing,
wildlife, gardening, and playing cards with friends. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, Fleet Reserve Association,
Riviera Owners Association, and the Buick Club of America.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sherry;
son, Bob (Peggy) Pentico; grandchildren, Rachel (Casey) Allen,
Tricia (Randy) Jones, Bobbi Jo (Steven) Buckley, and Phillip Pentico;
great-grandchildren, Austin Weatherly, Kyle Weatherly, Ryan Weatherly,
Jonathan Weatherly, Logan Grace Allen, and Emmett Buckley;
sister, Becky (Jerry) Baker; as well as many cousins and his Aunt Janny.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cathi Ruth,
brother-in-law, Paul Vogel, and his four-legged friends, Butkus and Duke.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022,
at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona,
where the family will greet visitors from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the
Wounded Warrior Project, the Animal Rescue League, or
the organization of your choice.
