He resided briefly in Hamlin, IA until the age of 1 when the family moved to Boone, IA where he attended elementary and high school. Allan graduated from Boone High School in 1976. From there he attended University of Iowa undergraduate and law school with graduation from law school in 1983. His first job was as a bank examiner for the Iowa Department of Banking. Allan was known for his love of children. He volunteered for Make-A-Wish for over 20 years and played an instrumental part in granting wishes to many children and helping to establish Jolly Holiday Lights. His involvement never stopped there, he followed the children and their families throughout the years becoming like part of their family. He was influential in the formation of the Des Moines Kiwanis Miracle League in 2007 believing baseball is for all children no matter their abilities. He was the announcer every Saturday for the games, knowing each individual by name.
Allan was an avid golfer and could be found on the golf courses with his dear golfing buddies, even traveling to Ireland to explore golf courses with them. In addition, his love of the St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes continued throughout his life.
He will be greatly missed by his family which includes his siblings, Dorothy Hacker, Chuck (Jane) Nissen, Leannis Peppers, Karen (Darrell) Hayes, and Cheryl (Mehmed) Suvic; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and his many dear friends which are too numerous to mention. I had the absolute pleasure to work many years with Al at Jolly Holiday Lights as well as working on a few wishes together. He was the absolute BEST wish granter I have ever seen. He took this role to another level and was so compassionate and giving! This community lost a very special and generous leader in how to live your life. Thanks for always inspiring me to do more. You will be missed.

Cheryl and family members the visitation for Als numerous friends was outstanding - viewing the photo video and baseball/golf momentos! Cant recall where I first met Al may have been while golfing at Waveland (Als second home). We served a number of clients together at ISB and each one seemed like a personal friend to Al. I can hardly share how Al will be missed

Saddened to learn of Al's passing. Always enjoyed speaking with him on our family affairs. Ready to listen on any situation. Good to have a Cardinals fan. I'm sure he's shooting below par. Our thoughts are with you all. God bless.

To the family of Allen. I am sorry for your loss. My grandson Robert truly enjoyed you giving him a chance to sing the national anthem at the games. He continues to sing every time he gets the chance at other venues like the Special Olympics. May you Rest in peace in God's loving arms.

Allan was a very special person. He made every kid at the Miracle League games feel wanted, needed, and special. Devlin loved to tease and be macho with him. We are so very sad that he has left us but think of all the souls up in heaven that will be looked after by him. Our prayers and thoughts are with his loved ones left behind. May the Lord be woth you until we meet again

I met Al in January,,2001 when I joined the Danish Brotherhood Lodge. Although I have no Danish ancestors, I was and remain interested in Danish history and customs. Al and I were officers over the years and regular attendees at DB activities having fun and raising money for good causes. I NEVER met a more enthusiastic fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team!
I will ALWAYS remember Al for the loving way he assisted his mother. In my mind I can still see Al pushing his mother into Chicago Speakeasy in her wheel chair. It is consistently a good indicator of a person's character if they treat their parents well. Al will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Al.

Oh Al! Retirement for you was cut way too short!
You were definitely one of the really good guys here on earth & you will be sorely missed by so many! I became acquainted with you at Iowa State Bank during my time as a Legal Secretary & in Customer Service at Iowa Title. That would have been a number of years ago! 😳 I have always had the utmost respect for you as a person/attorney/Trust Officer & for your input on anything that caused our paths to cross. Thank you for being you & for the wise counsel you were always so willing to share. I always knew you would make yourself available to visit whenever you were contacted. Now you are in heaven where we know you are healthy, happy & having a great time! Undoubtedly its way better there than anything retirement here could offer! 🙏🏻 You are among the best of the best in either realm & you will make an awesome Guardian Angel! Thanks from many for everything! RIP Al!

He was such a warm, happy person - I enjoyed getting to know him through Kiwanis and the Miracle League. We will miss his voice as the announcer once games begin again. Such a big loss for everyone - especially the children he made smile.
