Darrell Cochran, age 95, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was born the son of Elza Bea and Maude (Ward) Cochran on September 9, 1926 in Iowa Falls, IA.

Darrell enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Alamos Scouts in Japan and the Philippines from October of 1944 to December of 1946. He earned several medals, including the Purple Heart. Darrell worked many jobs throughout his life, he was District Sales Manager for Little Debbie snack cakes for 10 years, owned and operated Windsor Heights Dry Cleaners, Wallace Cleaners, and Oak Park Cleaners. Most recently, he was employed by NPI Security and worked part time for 13 years.

Darrell was an avid Hawkeye fan, he loved all men and women’s sports. Some of his hobbies and interests included his great love for the outdoors, he loved horses, golfing, camping and fishing. Above all, he enjoyed time spent with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Marion Cochran; children, Craig (Deborah) Cochran, Kelly (Mary) Cochran, Sheila (Sherm) Ploeger, Terry (Denise) Cochran, Darrell Cochran, and Justin (Shauna) Cochran; step-children, Donette Vanderlinden, Ronald (Nancy) Carpenter, and Matthew (Amanda) Carpenter; 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Elza Bea and Maude Cochran; wife, Dolly Cochran; sisters, Darlene, Helen, Betty, and Louise; and his brother, Roscoe.

Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., February 4, 2022 at the VFW Post #738, 2801 Dean Ave., Des Moines, IA, 50317.
