Mark Dearden
January 24, 2022
Mark Dearden passed away on January 24, 2022 at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Hospital. He was born on November 7, 1963 to Russell and Jane Dearden of Des Moines. He graduated from Lincoln High School and lived in Des Moines his whole life.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Russell; sister, Michelle Dearden; niece, Morgan Woods; grandparents, Stanley and Ruth Miller and John and Marguerite Dearden.
He is survived by his mother, Jane; brother, Brian (Melinda Burriola) Dearden; sisters, Sue (Mark) Woods and Cindy (Greg) Smith all of Des Moines; nieces and nephews, Lacey, Madison, Payton, Emily Woods, Korey Dearden, Ava Burriola Dearden, Jorden, Carter, Brooklyn, Jayce, Kaylee, and Janessa Smith; along with extended family and friends.
Mark was a big presence. He wasn’t afraid to speak his mind or defend the people he loved. Even through his battle with cancer, he never changed. He continued to take care of his mom and spend time with his family and friends and do what he wanted.
Mark was talented in many ways. He loved cars whether it was working on model cars, going to the races or working on his Ford Falcon. He loved going to car shows, swap meets, and even participating in the demolition derby with his brother.
Mark previously worked at the DSM Auto Auction and loved his job detailing cars and spending time with his friends.
Mark could draw. He was an artist but didn’t know it. He loved drawing cars and “doodling” whatever was on his mind.
Mark also enjoyed music, especially the rock group, KISS. He shared this passion with his brother, Brian. They both went to their first concert together to see KISS as teenagers. He enjoyed playing the drums with the drumsticks given to him from the stage by the KISS drummer, Eric Singer at the Iowa State Fair.
Mark will be greatly missed but always remembered by his family and those who cared for and loved him. We love you Mark.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Mark. Your contribution may be sent to Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 2580 Fleur Drive, Suite 102, Des Moines, Iowa 50321.
