Service Details

Julene H. Hanna Smith was born on December 27, 1966 in Lucas, IA to June Kepley and Jasper Hanna. She graduated Mormon Trail High School of Humeston, IA in 1985. She married Raymond Smith in 2001. She resided in Ankeny, IA for the remainder of her adult life.

Julene passed unexpectedly on Sunday, January 23, 2022. She was preceded in death by her grandparents George and Mable, In-Laws Virgil, Lenora, and Kay, brother-in-law Rik, as well as many others. She leaves behind her parents June and Jasper, her husband Raymond, her daughters Lacy and Laura (Phillip), her two grandson’s Kurt and Kamden, siblings Matt (Heather) and Marcie (Dave), numerous extended family members, as well as many, many friends.

Julene was always the life of the party even if she was the one making trouble. She was the person anyone could go to for anything and she would try her best to help. Julene was always ready to open her home to her family and friends, whether it was for a quick meal, a good talk, a shoulder to cry on, or just some laughs.

In her free time, Julene would ride her Harley. She could always be found listening to whatever music inspired her at the moment. Julene loved watching (read as: falling asleep to) movies and football, namely her boys, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Julene will be sorely missed by many.

Per the family’s request, please wear casual attire in honor of Julene.

Memorial contributions my be made through Venmo accounts - @Laura-McCalley or @cheeznipsrgud in loving memory of Julene.

“You can shed tears because they are gone, or you can smile because they lived. You can close your eyes and pray they will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that they left for you. Your heart can be empty because you can't see them, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember only that they are gone or you can cherish their memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind and feel empty, or you can do what they would want: smile, open your heart, love, and go on.”
