Jim Spurling

Jim Spurling, age 70 of Carlisle, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born on April 7, 1951, in Sac City, Iowa. He attended grade school in Truesdale, Iowa, High School in Albert City, Iowa. Jim attended Webster City Junior College and attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He worked for the City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation for many years and recently retired.

He enjoyed planting and taking care of his garden, fishing, and taking care of his chickens.

Jim dedicated his life to Christ.

Jim is survived by his brothers, Bill Spurling of Sac City, Iowa, and Bob (Pat) Spurling of Thousand Oaks, California; sisters, Kay Carnine of Des Moines, Iowa and Jean (John) Cosby of North Ridge, California; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Spurling and Mary Spurling (Heyl); sister, Marlene Forrester; sister-in-law, Kip Spurling; and niece, Colleen Spurling.

The family will greet friends Friday, February 4, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Jim will be laid to rest at Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Iowa.
