Lawrence Charles Hindert was born February 28, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN to Lawrence and Oleivia (Hauserman) Hindert. He passed away January 25, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son, Larry Michael of Des Moines; grandson, Grayson; and sister, Clariece (Lyle) of Brecht of Wheaton, MN. A memorial will be held Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Contributions may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Lawrence attended Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, MN until June of 1957, when his family moved to the Des Moines area. He graduated from Urbandale High School in 1958. After high school, Lawrence worked as a surveyor in the Des Moines area. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960, serving until his honorable discharge in 1964. After his time in the Navy, Lawrence played semi-pro hockey for the Des Moines Oak Leaves.

After returning home from the Navy, Lawrence began his career in iron work. During this time, he helped to build the Ruan Building, the Principal Building, and Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa. He was a member of Iron Workers Local 67 Union.

Lawrence enjoyed exercising and working outdoors. He loved coaching his son in Little League. He had a love/hate relationship with his Minnesota Vikings. Lawrence enjoyed going to drive-in movies, and his cat KiKi held a special place in his heart. He was an avid car lover and liked anything to do with cars, owning many throughout his lifetime. He had a strong faith and read his Bible daily.
