Martha Ellen Solomon Carico, age 86, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

Martha was born July 23, 1935, in Huntsville, Missouri, to Henry and Esther (Cleek) Solomon. She married Ralph Carico in 1963, and they had three children, Janie, Pete, and Philip. Martha loved to have Sunday family dinners and go fishing. She also loved to travel. Her favorite place was New Orleans for the food, and she enjoyed visiting out of state family. Martha loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and she enjoyed family camping trips, especially at Cutty’s.

Martha was involved with her Bible study, and had a strong faith. She read the Bible every single day. Martha was always an independent woman who loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed talking on the phone and staying connected with her large extended family.

She is survived by her children, Janie (Jake) Keubler, Pete (Robyn Killen) Carico and Philip (Leah) Carico; grandchildren, Zackary (Juliana), Nathan (Brandi), Nicholas, Nathan (Audra), Heather (Micah), Lacie, Joshua (Sarah), and Ella; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Hunter, Emersyn, Adison, Taylor, Kaleigh, Drake, Demi, Delaney, Bailey, and Rhea; great-great-grandson, Dax; siblings, Walter (Joyce) Solomon, Dorothy Reed, Carolyn Deierling, Judy Monson, Terry Solomon, Donna (Hayward) Clark and “Herbie”, Marcia Solomon, David (Gloria) Solomon, Kathy (Johnny) Arias, and Michael (Cathy) Solomon; 48 nieces and nephews; and other extended family members and friends.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Carico in 2002; parents, Henry and Esther Solomon; and her siblings, Kenneth, William, Marion, Juanita, Herman, and Crystal.

Services will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service following at 1:00 p.m.
