Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4, from 5 to 7 PM, and funeral services on Saturday, February 5, at 2:30PM, both at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Masks will be required at both services.
Fred Williams, Jr. was born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 5, 1940, to Claudine and Fred Williams, Sr. Fred was educated in the Des Moines Public School system. Fred enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1958. While serving, he attended Armory School where he became a track vehicle mechanic. He was honorably discharged in February 1962.
Fred attended Des Moines Area Community College and obtained his Associates degree in 1972. In 1975, he earned his Bachelor degree in Political Science from Drake University.
Fred spent his working career in the social services field. For many years he worked with organizations that served children including Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa, Woodward Academy, and Children & Families of Iowa where he retired in 2011.
On January 24, 2022 Fred stepped from time into eternity. Preceding him in death are his parents; grandmother, Helen McCraven; and brothers, Dan Law and Tommy Law.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Charlene; children, Phil Calderon, Barry (Wendy) Williams, David (Linda) Wood, Stephanie Williams, Kimberly (Erwin) Jones, David Williams, Nicole Williams, Nakia (Doug) Ewing, Jada Williams; brother, Marvin Robinson; sister, Johnanna Law, Peggy Gasberry-Jenkins; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, extended family, close friends, and his dog, Snoop.
There are not enough words to fully express our heartfelt thanks for the sympathy, love, and support you have extended to our family during this time. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers.

From Marcella and Donald Betts:. sorry to hear of the passing of Fred. I knew him through my daughter Diane Thacker. He was a beautiful man and loved by everyone who knew him. He is now in God's loving arms for eternity and we will be there when we get to go home ourselves. Prayers are coming your way now. Peace be with you.
