Jadiel "J.J." Benjamin Varela-Contreras

J.J. Contreras passed away unexpectedly on January 19, 2022. He was born in Des Moines on April 10, 2011, to Anastasio Varela and Beatriz Contreras.

J.J. was currently a fifth-grade student at Carver Elementary School in Des Moines. He was an active 10-year-old who enjoyed karate, playing outside, riding his bike, and dancing. He also enjoyed building Legos and telling jokes.

J.J.’s strong faith as a young boy was shown in his love for others and his willingness to help those in need. He had a great sense of humor and was always giggling or smiling. He will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Beatriz (Jordan) Contreras; his baby brother, Leo; stepbrother, Junior; stepsister, Aracelii; grandparents, Darlyn Fructuoso and Daniel Solis; aunts and uncles, Erika Ontiveros, Joel Marchan and David Marchan; cousins, Junior, Anthony, Selene, Andrea, and Linda; as well as other loving family and countless friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 2 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, where the family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
