Maria Cerrato

Maria Cerrato passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2022, at her home. She was born February 1, 1964 to Nicholas and Gretchen Cerrato. She was 57 years old.

Maria most recently worked at Ross Clothing Store since 2019. Before that she worked many years at Walmart on SE 14th St. She had many friends there who were like family. Maria loved working with children. She had a degree in child development and also worked at a few different daycare centers, one being for low income families.

Maria had a passion in life for those who were struggling. In the past, she had taken in people who didn't have a home. She never wanted someone to be in need if there was a way she could help. Maria was known to give her number out to complete strangers after praying with them, in hopes to help them in the future. Maria was a believer in Jesus Christ and would look for opportunities to share her faith. She always had a smile and a hug for everyone.

Maria was the proud mother of 5 children: Darwin (Melissa) Curl, Samantha Cerrato, Sierra Cerrato, Malichi Cerrato, and Gage Cerrato, and a nephew that was like her son, Joey Rollins. Maria was also a loving grandmother to 9 grandchildren: Jadelynn, Aidan, Liberty, Justus, Landon, Faithlynn, Grayson, Titus and Harmony. Maria is survived by her family: brother, Nick Cerrato; sisters, Vicki Cerrato, Alice Cerrato, and Tina Cerrato.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of life will be on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 1:00 pm. The service will be held at Fort Des Moines Open Bible Church, 1116 Army Post Road, Des Moines, IA 50315.
