Freda M. Simmons

Freda Mae Simmons, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at her home in Des Moines.

Freda was born June 20, 1936 in Perry, Iowa. She has been a resident of the Des Moines area for the past 57 years, living previously in Pensacola, FL, Rochester, NY, and Springfield, OR. Freda proudly served in United States Navy. She earned her Associate’s Degree and did primarily office work during her working years. Freda was a member of American Legion Post #274.

Freda’s greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling in her younger years.

She is survived by her son, John A. Simmons; daughter, Shannon Simmons; grandson, Brandon Robinson; granddaughter, Nicole Hart; great-grandson, DaShawn Hughes; and great-granddaugter, Zylah Ella Carr.

Freda was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Simmons and her mother, Ella Mae Ellsbury.

According to Freda’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no formal services held at this time.
