David Speed

David Kent Speed, age 82 of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will be held at a later date.

David was born April 9, 1939, in DeKalb, Illinois to parents, Forrest and Helen (Chase) Speed. They moved to Carlisle, Iowa when he was in 3rd grade and he graduated from Carlisle High School in 1957. He worked for a short time as a masonry and then became employed by the United States Post Office where he proudly worked for 43 years.

David was a great family man, a devoted husband, and a loving father. He enjoyed taking family vacations, working on cars, fishing, and playing cards, which he was quite good at it. He was always very handy around the house and took pride in caring for his home. His family and friends will always remember him as an animal lover, gentle soul, and kind man.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Donna Peterson Speed; his daughters, Lori Carrara of West Des Moines and LeAnna Carreon (Sal) of Des Moines; his sister, Mitzi Speed Blahnik (Dick) of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Tia, Anthony, Andrew, Brock, Salena and Vincent; and a great-granddaughter, Kambrie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Hellen Speed of Carlisle, and his beloved dog, Duke.
