John was loving, empathetic and compassionate but stubborn to a fault when his mind was set, meanwhile he had a smile pure as gold. He was known as Mommas Boy, Johnny Boy, Jazzy John, My Little Brother and Uncle John. John was full of laughter, living fully in each moment.

John enjoyed singing and when he sang he was all in with not a care in the world but the pure joy of singing. Family was important to John and was much bigger than the family born into. He had three life brothers, Mark, Bob and Ray. John lived a full life, contributing to society by working at HyVee for a short while, did Meals on Wheels, and lived independently. He loved camp, listening to the Bible, and children. John participated in the Special Olympics, bowling, swimming, and was a huge Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed his newspaper, weather radio, and cars. Recently John was crowned “King for a Night” at the Night to Shine event.

“I did it! I graduated.

I reached my potential because I had loving, caring support of many who challenged me and loved me. Truth be told, I was spoiled too! And boy, did I use that. I loved teasing people, making them laugh. STEAL! (Ha ha! I won’t be doing that in Heaven. You taught me well!) My family and staff were important and I loved you dearly. I loved gatherings that include family, friends, food, music, dancing and singing. I loved steak, tacos, McDonald’s, pizza, hot dogs, but most of all Pepsi. I love the trees, leaves, and snow… anything I could watch blow in the wind. My favorite day of the year was Christmas. Oh those Christmas trees with lights! I lived life abundantly. For this I thank you! Don’t be sad, be joyful, silly, and love. I am at home with Mom in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Amen!”

If anyone is inclined to give a donation in John’s name, he would love it if they were given to Link Associates in appreciation of the loving care they gave to him.
