Lila M. Lacona

Lila Margaret Lacona, age 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 in her home surrounded by her family.
Lila was born November 27, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to James and Nellie (Stuchis) Orbon. She was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Lila married Frank John Lacona on July 13, 1948. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Des Moines.
Lila enjoyed doing word searches and watching game shows, especially the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. She liked cooking shows and was known for her homemade soups. Her cheese soup was the family favorite. She also loved going out to eat with her family. Lila loved birdwatching and would wait every spring for the wrens to come back to nest in her birdhouses. She loved birds so much she would end every conversation with a bird call. Above all else, Lila’s family was most important to her. She loved her family and her grandchildren will always remember her singing to them. Lila will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lila is survived by her daughter, Teresa Johnston; daughter, Linda Lacona; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lacona; daughter, Patty Funaro-Stover; daughter, Lou Ann Lemmo; son, Frank Lacona; sister, Patty Kopaska; and her parents, Nellie and James Orbon.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery after the funeral.

We are so very sorry for the loss of your Mother! We just found out today and would have been at her services for sure if we had known. Lila will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was a positive force in your family and always managed to have a smile on her face!

Ryan and Elise, I am sorry for your loss. It is always difficult to lose a very beloved family member. What we can hang on to is that we know that your grandmother entered eternal life and is with all the loved one that left before her. How wonderful that we know she is being held in the arms of Jesus. Thinking of you.
