I've known Larry and Nonie for 45+ years, meeting them at Iowa Christian College in the mid-'70s. Larry didn't merely wear the label "Christian"; he LIVED it. When I lived in Cedar Rapids and visited my parents in Pleasantville, I lost my car keys. The spare was in Cedar Rapids, 2 hours away. When my own family wouldn't help me, Larry Rush did. He worked nights at John Deere and went without sleep to drive me to Cedar Rapids and back. I'll never forget his selfless act of kindness and fine Christian example. One of many stories I could tell. Larry wasn't judgmental when I deserved it but was always kind and loving. A finer Christian man, I have yet to meet. I know this is a time of great loss, and my heartfelt prayers are with Nonie, Matt, Elizabeth and family. However, it is also a time of exuberant celebration! Larry "graduated" to be with Jesus, whom he loved dearly, and is now enjoying the rewards that Jesus stored up for him. Larry, I will miss you and look forward to our reunion in heaven!

Uncle Larry was a wonderful person - inside and out. He had a nice soul and was kind to others. He also gave the best hugs! I have a lot of great memories with him. He will forever be missed, and we are so sorry for your familys loss. We are thinking of you all!

We have known and loved Larry and Nonie and family for many years. Richard (Dick) hired in with Larry at John Deere. These two became immediate friends with a friendship that has lasted all these years. Dick sang at Larry and Nonies wedding. We will miss Larry very much but we know he is in heaven and we hope to see him again. God, has blessed us with many years of memories with Larry and Nonie. We love you, dearly!

What can I say? I never really knew Larry, but my wife Jolene did from her college days. She was also good friends with Nonie. We enjoyed her company as well as her food whenever we visited her. I became friends with both of them too. Nonie is a woman of great faith, I saw this when I first met her. I offer my deepest sympathies to Nonie and as well to her family, and my prayers of comfort and peace go with all of them. Nonie, I will always remember that you held me in your arms while I grieved the loss of Jolene during her Celebration of Life this past August. I will never forget that.

Larry was such a devoted spouse and wonderful human being. I certainly wish I had more of his traits than I do. Hopefully his children inherited his many good qualities. I remember a time long ago, Larry and Winona took a friend of mine and me to a place where we got hot pastrami sandwiches not too far from where they lived. Larry was quite willing to accept anyone as a friend that Winona knew. This world misses people like Larry greatly. And we certainly need more people like him.
