Michael Guy "Wilbur" Williams
December 19, 2021
Michael Guy Williams “Wilbur” was born on a naval base in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 29, 1954. Mike was raised on the Des Moines Southside. As a kid, he was an All-star Baseball player. He was a home run record holder at South Des Moines. Mike attended St. Anthony’s, Weeks Junior High, and Lincoln High Schools. In his late teens, Mike left Des Moines to see the USA and Mexico. He returned to Des Moines in 2003 and married Carol Tiernan (Powell) and started a very successful paint business – Williams Painting.
Mike’s pride and joy was his granddaughter, Alexis AnnaLee Tiernan, “His Boss”. William Tiernan, Andrea Tiernan, and Nick Tiernan were all loved by Mike like they were his own children. He also loved his grandsons, Conley Tiernan and Rory Tiernan. Mike is also survived by his sister, Kim and brother-in-law, Dave Ohara; sister, JoAnn and brother-in-law, David Leach; sister, Diana Horn; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was a member of Southside Cares and loved to play golf, which was his real passion. He loved his Monday, Wednesday, and Friday golf buddies. Mike fulfilled a bucket list accomplishment by going with William to the US Tennis Open, and seeing New York City. They did it all while in New York! Mike loved watching all sports on his beloved big screen and much as he loved playing golf.
Mike passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021 at the age of 67 after battling cancer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Williams; father, Jim Williams; aunt, Sister Dorothy Bartels RSHM.
There will be a public celebration of life from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A private family graveside service will take place at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Southside Cares.

You made an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew you, and a blessed mark on mine.
I drove by the house on Kirkwood and was flooded with memories.
Tell your mom Jean and your dad Jim, I said, "hello."
There is a part of me, that will always appreciate you, Michael Guy "Wilbur" Williams.

My brother was the most easygoing and generous person I knew. He loved his friends and family deeply. He lived life to it's fullest, to the very end. His positive spirit will live on forever. I will miss calling you and hearing "hey sport". RIP Michael.

Michael was my oldest brother, and after not seeing each other for over 35yrs, we finally got to spend some time together this last July and August. Alongside our sister Kim, and other family members, we were able to spend some quality time together. I will ALWAYS remember the time we spent together. Thank you for the memories. I want you to know that youve meant so much to me. Words cant say what I truly mean; I just want to say that I love you, I miss you, and you will be forever in my heart, brother.
Until we meet again..
Rest in eternal peace.
Love, Diana

So sorry to hear of Mikes passing, but at least his pain is gone. Mike and Kim are/were my younger first cousins. We spent much time together when they were little before I moved to California from Des Moines in 1960. I had forgotten Mikes middle name Guy was from our Grandfather Guy Horn. Best wishes to all the Tiernan family.
