Service Details
Duane Onstot, 82, died October 18, 2009 at the Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be held at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 with family present from 6-8 PM. Graveside services will be held at the Norwalk Cemetery on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM
Duane was born July 27, 1927 in Norwalk, Iowa to Earl and Mona Onstot. Duane joined the United States Army in 1945 and proudly served until 1947. He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Hutson Onstot on July 1, 1948.
He began his 30 years of service for Warren County in the capacity as a Deputy Sheriff and continued on to be a Charter Member of the Norwalk Fire Department, Public Health Officer, Zoning Administrator, Civil Defense, and his final assignment being Communications Director. Duane was key in setting up the 911 system for Warren County.
Duane is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children, Dan (Terry) Onstot, Carla (Jim) Becker, Pamela Milner, Paula Alloway, Gaila (Tom) Hayes, and Jeff (Gayle) Onstot; grandchildren, Stacey (Nate) Squiers, Joey Becker, Kelly Flynn, Dan Onstot, Megan Alloway, Bryan Milner, Chris Onstot, Cole Alloway, Nick Lang, Cortney Onstot, Taylor Hayes, and Cameron Onstot; and great-grand children, Josh, Jake, and Jillian Squiers. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Bob and Herb.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Duane Onstot Memorial Fund. All proceeds will go to benefit the accommodating and devoted nursing staff at the Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Peggy,
Doris just called me to tell me of your sad news. It has been many years since we worked together at General United, but I remember your family very well and think of you all often. I will always cherish your stories, of the Christmas Star on the silo and the Log Cabin Christmas Tree light.

I'm so sorry for your loss. From visiting with the family members I've spent time with, I know you have many, many great memories. Although that doesn't fill the void, it will help you as time goes by. You are lifted up in my prayers, and I hope you feel God helping you through this time.
