James Moran, 91, passed away October 18, 2009 at Urbandale Healthcare Center.
James was born December 17, 1917 in Colfax, IA to William Moran and Mary Ellen Moran Damerval. He was with the Des Moines Police Dept. for over 25 years, retiring in 1978 as a lieutenant. James was a member of Highland Park Christian Church and the Elks Club.
James is survived by his son, James (Margaret) Moran of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Marjorie (George) Brown of Des Moines; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; son, Jack; and his sister, Thelma Ogden.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 NW 6th Dr. followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.

To Son James Moran
I was so sorry to hear of your Fathers death.
It has been years since I have seen him
He was a special friend of my Father, Russ Johnson,Sr. who passed away in 1988.
They had a long time friendship which was more then a customer of our Hammer Pharmacy. ( we still own Hammers...Iowas oldest....1872)
I remember your Dad as GOOD MAN and a VERY NICE FRIEND of Dad and me.
I would have been at the funeral, but I had brain surgery about two weeks ago and am staying around the house for awile, getting back in better shape.
Had a Bike Accident on a Clive path, had gone 25 miles...about a mile to go.
Started raining and I fell on a turn.
Prognosis appears to be very good....but not quite yet.
Glad I could make this connection through Hamiltons.

Jim and Marj, I am sorry to hear of the death of your father. I am Slim and Millie Hayes's daughter, and I fondly remember your folks as great people. We used to visit them a lot. We have now lost all four of them, but they lived good lives. Dad died in 1997 and mother in 2005. I was married for 35 years, ad my husband just died in January. He is also buried at Glendale. Our daughter lives in Lawrence, Kansas. I remain in my home in West Des Moines.
I just wanted to extend my sympathy. I have a commitment Friday and am unable to attend the funeral. You will have many happy memories, I know.
