William Shackelford

William Edward Shackelford, age 76, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Bill was born October 24, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa, the oldest of two sisters and one brother to Glenn and Agnes (Walizer) Shackelford. He graduated from Saydel High School in 1963. Bill went on to attend Grandview and Drake Universities, earning his B. A. degree. He married Joyce Hampton in 1970. They moved to Waterloo where Bill worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer. He then bought Yellow Cab Company in Des Moines. Bill entered into the insurance industry, working for Preferred Risk in the Workman’s Comp Department until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, biking, and hunting. He also enjoyed a good game of golf or pool. He volunteered for the homeless through Urban Bicycle Food Ministry and JOPPA.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Rob (Heather); grandchildren, Meadow, Isaiah, and Robbie; brother, Bob; and his nieces and nephews, Jason, Adam, Tony, Maria, Nicole, and Eric.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Agnes; and his sisters, Diane and Glenda.
Cremation will occur and there will be a celebration of life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Urban Bicycle Food Ministry or JOPPA in loving memory of Bill.

I knew Bill only briefly when times were tough and I drove Yellow Cab. That was years ago when we drove Checker Cabs that were housed in the old 3 story horse barn replaced by one of the Principal additions He made such an impression on me that I've always remembered him He will be missed.
