Thomas James Irwin, 76, passed away December 10, 2021 at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines.
Thomas was born November 15, 1945 in Watertown, South Dakota to Chester and Pauline Irwin. He served in the United States Navy. He worked as a bus driver for the Des Moines Public Schools and Des Moines Area Regional Transit. He loved flower and vegetable gardening. Thomas had an amazing organic garden in which he grew 85% of his own food. His health was very important to him and he continued to enjoy his daily two mile run.
Thomas is survived by his son, Scott (Tina) Irwin; grandchildren, Ezekiel, Erazem and Eva; his companion, Zerah Bijani; sister, Tika; brother, John Irwin; and best friend, Larry.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul Irwin.
Thomas will be laid to rest with military honors Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 11 am at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

You were strong not only in body but also your spirit. You always stood up for the things and ideals you believed in. You were an amazing person. I will always love you and hope that you will be with me when I need you the most as you did in life.
