Curtiss Wayne Oliver (Curt) passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 8, 2021, at the Iowa Jewish Life Center, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 30, 1946, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Mildred Oliver of Nevada, Iowa.

Curtiss graduated from Nevada High School in 1965 and attended Ellsworth Community College and the University of Iowa. He was employed at various jobs until his attributes as a skilled communicator and solid leadership brought him to his employment at Behring Diagnostics where he became National Sales Manager for the military, industrial and criminal justice markets for SYVA Co. of Palo Alto, CA.

Curtiss and his wife, Darlene celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in June and together are parents of two sons, Anthony Christopher (Penny) of Waukee, IA, and Andrew Curtiss (Italia, step-grandson Jessiah) of Long Beach, CA. He was passionate about golf and enjoyed playing the sport whenever possible until Multiple Sclerosis interfered with his mobility. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Council #13159. Other interests included family vacations, crossword puzzles, cards, various board games, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Curtiss was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Mildred, and brother Keith Oliver.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at the church after services.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to caregiver Teresa Cunningham and the Iowa Jewish Life Center for their compassion and excellent care.

Memorials can be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or the MS Society-National Iowa Chapter.
