Nadine Joyce Curl, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Nadine was born January 1, 1930 in Dedham, Iowa to Carl and Mary (Anderson) Scott. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1948. Nadine married Darrell “Dean” Curl on January 10, 1949, before Dean was stationed in Georgia with the Army. The couple were Texas Snowbirds for 20 years spending November to April in McAllen, Texas.

Nadine faithfully attended The Church at Union Park for many years, and was extremely active in their Quilting/Sewing Group there. She had a love for quilting, crocheting, sewing and making crafts – her hands were never idle. She was extremely creative. Her family always treasured their homemade gifts from Nadine.

Nadine loved tending to her gardens, both vegetable and especially her flowers. She was an excellent baker and cook, especially her yummy breads and homemade jelly. Nadine was a proud member of the Eastern Star. She worked as a lunch lady for Des Moines Public Schools two different times. She was also an accountant for JC Penney, and worked at Hinky Dinky stocking shelves.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Alice) Curl, Dale (Kym) Curl, and Janet Cory; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Florence) Scott; sister-in-law, Irene Scott; special cousin, Kay Kult; and numerous nieces, nephews, loving relatives, and countless friends.

Nadine was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Darrell “Dean” Curl; her parents, Carl and Mary Scott; infant son, Roger Curl; brothers, Jack and Jay Scott; and special cousin-in-law, Bill Kult.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022 with visitation for one hour prior to the service at The Church at Union Park, 821 Arthur Ave, Des Moines. Private family burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials for Taylor Hospice House in loving memory of Nadine.
