Gary A. Barden

Gary Barden, age 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

Gary was born April 14, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa to Jack and Winnifred Barden. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. He married Valerie (Harker) Barden on June 13, 1981.

Gary was a devout Christian at Berean Assembly of God. In the 80’s he worked at Mrs. Clark’s Salad Dressing. He also worked the returns department at Auto Parts Warehouse.

Gary enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He loved taking long road trips with his wife and family. He spent many summers in Minnesota or going on canoe trips. Gary enjoyed playing volleyball and softball. He collected anything with eagles on it. His grandchildren were the center of his world.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Valerie; daughter, Heather (husband Jason) Pettinger; grandchildren, Victoria Pettinger (Josh Salzbrunn), Isabelle and Tristen Pettinger; son, Joseph (wife Jacqueline) Knapp; grandchildren, Caleb and Shelby Knapp; siblings, Denny Barden (Pattie), Michael Barden (Jodie), Patrick Barden (Lisa) and Audrey Rivas; sister-in-law, Connie Barden; several nieces and nephews, as well as his church family and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Winnifred Barden; father, Jack Edward Barden; siblings, Becky Barthelemy and Jack Edward Barden, Jr.; grandson, Heaven James Pettinger; as well as his life long best friend, Bud Templeton.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2021 at Berean Assembly of God Church, 5299 E University Avenue, Pleasant Hill with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to his wife Valerie in loving memory of Gary.
