Jerry Lee Weiss

On Monday, November 29, 2021, Jerry L. Weiss caught the last flight to glory.
Jerry was born August 15, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, the oldest son of Kenneth L. and Elaine S. Weiss. He grew up in Des Moines and attended East High School, Grand View Junior College and Drake University; earning an Associate of Arts Degree, Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master Degree in Public Administration; accomplishments that surprised many, including himself. Following college, Jerry worked for the Iowa Department of Disaster Services; the Des Moines Police Department; the Iowa Judicial Department as Clerk of District Court in Polk County; and for the Des Moines Public School District before retiring in 2007.
Jerry is survived by his beautiful and loving wife Bonnie; daughters Jennifer (Bob Dollinger) Weiss of Seattle, WA and Amanda Weiss of Des Moines; step-son Ben (Jan) Waseskuk of Des Moines; step-daughter Lolynn Waseskuk of Ankeny, IA; and six grandsons: Aaron Waseskuk, Ian Waseskuk, James Reynolds, Nicholas Reynolds, Damon Strait, William Dollinger and one granddaughter Madison Dollinger. Jerry is also survived by siblings Pamela (Steve) Stith of Littleton, CO; Steve (Kim) Weiss of Ankeny, IA; Sherri (Marie Schwartz) Weiss of Plymouth, MN; Patricia Michener of Des Moines, IA; James Weiss and Steve Dolash of Ankeny, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Animal Rescue League, in loving memory of Jerry.

It is with sadness that I read of Jerrys passing. I remember Jerry from high school and I enjoyed working with him at the Polk County Courthouse. RIP my friend. Condolences to the family.
