Melissa Davenport, age 50, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Melissa was born the youngest of nine children, the daughter of Philbert and Minnie Davenport on February 15, 1971 in Mexico, Missouri.
Melissa worked for Behavioral Technologies as a Developmental Specialist since 2002. She also worked in this field prior to that for many, many years. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and gambling. She had a personality unmatched. Melissa had the most generous loving heart, always putting her loved ones and others before herself without a moment’s hesitation. She was a big staple of the family, she was admired and well respected. Her bright smile, kind heart and compassion and grace will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, Darius Davenport, Sr., Kayneasha Davenport, Lakia Woolery; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis, Alice, Mary, and Barbara; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended loving family.
Melissa was preceded in death by her parents, Philbert and Minnie; grandson, Daniel; brothers, Philbert and Charles; sisters, Lydia and Patricia; and nephew, James.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 pm, with funeral service to begin at 2:30 pm, Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

Darius, I'm so sorry to hear your Mother passed suddenly. Heartbreaking. You were John Caponi assistant and friend. We sat together at Johns funeral. Thank you for your support that day. My prayers are with you and your family. Your mother was a wonderful person and more. Prayers and healing. Julie

My most deepest sympathy for you all. Melissa was one of the very few people that I've known to have such a true and genuine heart. She was such strong woman, an amazing person and friend. I truly treasure the friendship we had, and the imprint she left in my life. I will forever remember and miss her.
