Janet Bass

Janet Bass passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at the age of 80. She was born on April 20, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of Walter and Mabel (Berry) Houseman.
Janet attended North High School in Des Moines and was high school sweethearts with her future husband, Tony Bass. The two of them were united in marriage on April 23rd, 1959, at Hillside Chapel in Des Moines. Janet worked at Motel 6 and later as a Teachers Aid at Wright Elementary School.
She enjoyed racing, riding quads, watching CSI, taking trips to Prairie Meadows, and socializing with friends. Janet had a heart of gold and was like a second mother to many, she always treated them as if they were her own. Above all else, Janet loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and treasured family gatherings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Tony M. Bass; children, Debbie Bass, Tony D. “Butch” (Lisa) Bass, Donna A. Bass, Darlene K. (Bruce) Oliver, Gary L. Bass (Erin Davidson), and Todd A. Bass; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Doris Newman.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; son, Danny Bass; and many brothers, sisters, and other loving family members.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

OUT OF ALL THE PEOPLE I HAVE KNOWN IN MY CRAZY LIFE, YOU ARE THE ONE WHO TAUGHT ME MOST ABOUT RESPECTING OTHER PEOPLE!!!.....
I WISH THERE WERE MORE LIKE YOU BUT I REALIZE THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE LIKE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE A ONE OF A KIND WOMAN.......AND MOTHER!!!!!...EVEN TO ALL OF US THAT WERENT REALLY YOUR KIDS,YOU STILL SHOWED US LOVE LIKE WE WERE!!!! My heart goes out to the whole family I know how much this lady meant to me and my children so I can only imagine how you guys are feeling I'll never ever forget all the memories we have at the races and all the memories of us sitting around the house watching TV and laughing and joking and playing with all the kids and she was a very special woman they hold a very special place and my family's heart you've earned your wings now why I like a dove we love and we will miss you Grandma
