Betty leaves behind a family who loved and adored her.

Betty L. Anderson, age 88, passed away November 19, 2021. She was born February 7, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to Irven and Pearl Dorothy. Betty did various jobs growing up and was a homemaker raising her four children. When they were older, she went to work for the Des Moines Public School District where she retired after 21 years.

Betty was a dedicated mother. She loved her family and that is where she found her true happiness. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. They were her world. She also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, listening to music, shopping with her kids, and she had a green thumb and could grow anything. She enjoyed decorating and had a great sense of style. She loved watching old movies from when she was young and she definitely had her favorite television shows. She had a big heart and donated to lots of charities.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Irven and Pearl Dorothy; sister, Barbara Haws; and grandson Zeke James Rawlins.

Those left to treasure Betty’s memory include her son, Joseph Anderson (Johney), daughters, Cheryl Summers (Kevin), Lisa Frazier (David), and Debra Rawlins; nine grandchildren, Melissa Husmann, Mandy Ryan (Jesse), Craig Williams (Kylie), Joseph Anderson (Hailey), Zachary Miner (Kelsey), Madison Summers (Chase), Brett Rawlins, Zoe Frazier, and Lorelei Rawlins. Betty also had nine great-grandchildren, Kendra, Carter, Christian, Joe, Maddix, Colton, Henry, Makenna Kay, and Daxton; and one sister.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, IA 50309. A private service for the family will be held at Hamilton’s on Monday, November 29th, and will be followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

Pallbearers will be Joe Anderson, Craig Williams, Zachary Miner, Brett Rawlins, Jesse Ryan, and Chase Bergman.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
