Robert Dennis Michaels, 74, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 14, 2021. He was born on January 28, 1947, to Mary and Jim Michaels.
Born and raised in Des Moines, he was a proud graduate of East High School. Throughout his career, Bob operated a paint business, worked as a reserve officer for the Des Moines Police Department, and retired from John Deere after many years of dedicated service.
Bob’s love for the Lord was evident when he was called into ministry in the 1970’s. He pastored at the South Side Assembly of God where he was known to preach and provide counsel to anyone he befriended.
Bob was a musician at heart with a vast collection of guitars. In 1976, he played with The Princeman Band which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Bob also led an active lifestyle, winning several weight-lifting and power-lifting competitions.
Bob is survived by his children, Craig (Melinda) Michaels and Randy (Tammy) Michaels; 4 grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Chloe and Calie; his sisters, Margie (Daniel) Eppley and Carol (Dave) Payne; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim; mother, Mary; and a sister, Teresa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona with burial to follow at the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Tuesday from 6-8 p.m., also at the funeral home.
